Open Road Motorsports

Open Road Motorsports is entering the 2010 LeMONS 24 hour race at Palm Beach International Raceway on December 30th and 31st. The start and finish times for this event are pretty unique. The event starts at midnight on the 30th and ends at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Dan Corcoran is joining us for the 24hr race. Dan is a very experienced racer (translated… old fart) on dirt, ovals and road courses. Dan has competed in the One Lap of America an amazing 20 times and has some seat time at PBIR. This will be a great help as Roy, Adrienne and I will be making our first visit to the track. Apparently there is a test day on Thursday prior to the event so we hope to get a few laps to learn the line and find our braking points.

We are looking forward to enjoying Open Road’s first 24 hour event. Although all 4 of us are very competitive and are always looking for the win, we have to recognize the high level of competition that is expected at LeMONS. A field of 80+ cars are expected to take the start. Twenty or more or more of these teams are expected to be capable of taking the win.

The Possum isn’t a fast car, in fact its 108hp and 105ft-lbs of torque is pretty embarrassing in a straight line, but the car stops well and is very well balanced in the corners. We used this car at the Shannonville 7hr Chump Races last April winning 1 race and taking a controversial 2nd in the other race. Our goals are to finish the event and use our tortoise and hare tactics to get us near the front.
